– For your consideration is this 2023 Colorsound Distorter effects pedal by Steven Williams of PigDog for Macari’s.
– This example, serial number 0461123, includes the original box and all corresponding paperwork.
– This Distorter pedal is somewhat of a reissue, which pays homage to a limited run made by Colorsound for a company called Dharma Sound. Located in Kent, UK, Dharma Sound released 4 different pedals in the late-’70s, called; Distorter, Sweeper, Phaser, Sustainer, all of which occupied the same “swallow amongst clouds” graphic.
– The circuit design is pretty interesting. The pedal features a BJT input buffer. After which, the signal is split into two parallel active fixed filters. The signal is then joined together before it hits the LM741 op amp with stacked clipping diodes to generate distortion. It effectively produces a distortion with a squawky wah-like filter.
– The enclosed original letter from Anthony and Steve Macari reads, “From the Workbench of Steve Williams – the Colorsound Distorter! Steve came to us with this idea last year – re-creating a circuit that originated in the old Sola Sound factory but was never made as a Colorsound pedal. Yet again, we have attempted to make the best version known to the human race – a no corners cut, top component unit built by a fuzz master.
