– For your consideration is this lot of 16 matching vintage 1959 Electrodyne 201-A microphone preamplifier modules.
– Many consider the Electrodyne 201-A as one of the best sounding mic pres ever designed and produced.
– This exceedingly rare collection consists of 16 individual modules, all of which were used at Indigo Ranch studio.
– Both the Electordyne 201-A and Langevin 5116B were made by MCA Tecnhnologies, and aside from chassis layout, the two mic pres are otherwise identical. The 201-A is actually less cramped, with a circuit occupying more surface area which results in slightly less noise, less heat, and less oscillation. This layout also renders is much easier to service.
– According to the schematic, the output gain is dependent upon the R5/R6 resistor values. 22K = 30dB, 39K = 35dB, 100K = 40dB (Standard), 150K =46dB.
– For additional reference, the Universal Audio 1016 is extremely similar in design and sound.
